Countries Involved In The War
Most of the world's countries, including all of the word's great powers, fought as 2 military alliances called the Axis and the Allies. World War 2 involved more countries, cost more money and killed more people than any other war in history, between 50 to 70 million died. The war covered most of Europe, the Pacific, the Atlantic, South East Asia, China, the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Africa.
Axis and the Allies
The Axis had 3 countries on their side while the Allies had 59 countries on their side. The Axis countries were Germany, Italy and Japan while the main Allied countries were Britain, France, USA and Russia. Britain was able to call upon its Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Other countries in the British Empire such as India also joined the War.

- Even though the Allies had 59 countries and the Axis had only 3 the Axis were more powerful.
- The USA didn't join the war in 1939 the joined the war 2 years after the war went on in Europe.

During the war 9 planes crashed in county Clare - 9 people were killed and 45 survived. The survivors were sent to the Curragh where they spent the rest of the war as Prisoners of War (POWs)
